Black Mulberry - Morus nigra

Family: Moraceae. The Mulberry or Fig Family.

A deciduous tree that grows to 12m high and by 15m wide but there are also dwarf varieties that will grow only 2-4 metres high while producing the same quality fruit as the full sized tree.

The berry edible fruit is dark purple to black and 2–3cm long and are considered the tastiest and most versatile of the mulberries with a good balance of sweetness and tartness. The berries can be eaten fresh or used in jams, wines and pies.
